Bukas: A Conversation with 2030

art project

2020 - 2030

PARADISE AIR, Matsudo, Japan; Koganecho Bazaar 2020 Volume 2 Artists & Communities, Yokohama, Japan

Bukas: A Conversation with 2030 is an exercise in futures-thinking that aims to reflect on our present condition and how we, as humans, got ourselves and the world in this situation. It is a transnational participatory time-capsule project that started in 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bukas is a Filipino word that means “open” or “tomorrow.” As an art project, this time-capsule is concerned with capturing the spirit of this peculiar time in history rather than being mere documentation of the events that transpired. The works from participants worldwide will be archived on a website that will be launched and opened for a limited time by the end of this year and will be relaunched in 2030.

Bukas is an ongoing project that was started in June 2020 through Lumbres’ short-term artist-in-residence in PARADISE AIR, Matsudo, Japan. It later became part of his exhibition for Koganecho Bazaar 2020 Volume 2 Artists & Communities, Yokohama, Japan.
